About us
We all have our own ‘F-word’ when it comes to our female hygiene.
Your menstrual cycle shouldn’t make you want to say the bad swearing F-word, it
should make you want to scream the good F-word. FREEDOM! The F-word is a
movement that allows women to speak about menstrual periods more freely.
I am a 27 year old medical doctor with a passion for women’s health and education.
Growing up, I was surrounded by teenage pregnancy and more so unwanted pregancies. I’ve seen cycles of generational poverty repeating itself but always knew that I wanted more for myself. I’ve realised that the root to this status quo was lack of education and female disempowerment.
This platform is to inpire females to defy their odds and not conform to the status quo.
Females (and males) need to become comfortable speaking about sex and menstruation. As females, by understanding our reporductive system and taking control of our reproductive health, we empower ourselves. Knowledge is power indeed.
I believe that a woman’s menstrual cycle should not be a burden because it is part of her daily/monthly/yearly life.
By using a menstrual cup, she can be a bloody, free, amazing woman!

New to the cup?
Initially, you’ll be scared and that is okay and normal because the menstrual cup is the unknown. It will take some time getting used to – at least 3 cycles for you to feel the full benefit of freedom.
I really liked the cup. I didn’t have any spillage and it felt comfortable. At the start, I was very aware of it, but then when I went on about my day I completely forgot about. The insertion and removal is quite a challenge for me still. But I am sure this will get better the more I use it. It takes me forever to insert it. And then when I had to remove it, I struggled quite a bit (and panicked for a few seconds) because only about a centimeter of the stem was outside of me. My long nails didn’t help either… The one time I had it in for about 8 straight hours and I was surprised to see how little I actually bleed. It’s interesting being able to keep track of your flow by actually seeing the blood content. It was really nice being able to forget about the cup for a long period and just live my life.
It has changed my life. As a medical doctor, I can work a whole shift carefree and completely focusing on my patients. Your menstrual cycle shouldn’t be a burden and make you want to say the bad swearing F- word, it should make you want to scream the good F-word – FREEDOM!!
I’ve always wanted to try the menstrual cup but never had the courage to as it did not look very comfortable. When Chanell told me about her experience with it and how much she loves it, I thought I’d give it a shot and wow has my monthly menses been changed! Chanell made a very nice voice note and video explaining how to use it, how the cup folds up and how it creates suction to keep you protected all day. She even made herself available to assist should I have difficulty removing the cup, which, luckily, was not necessary! When I first used it, I followed her instruction to relax (which made the insertion easier). I must say the feeling of the cup opening was very weird (and still catches me off guard sometimes). Once you have it in you don’t feel it at all. You can sleep, swim, run, gym, do 24 hour calls and know that you’ll be secure. Having very heavy flow I used the large cup and on my heaviest day I could go about 12 hours before having to empty it. My cup leaked only when I didn’t have a chance to empty on my heaviest day, but if you have a normal flow it shouldn’t be a problem. The F-word has completely changed periods for me! Thank you Chanell for introducing me to it!
The menstrual cup has changed my life forever!!!! No more running to the stores for tampons, and no running out of tampons, just NO MORE TAMPONS ya’ll!!! Yes, of course I was scared at first, I thought; “how in the world am I going to insert this big thing” but honestly, that was the easiest part! I never struggled inserting the cup at all.. as I said, that was quite easy for me, it just took me a couple of try’s to figure out a comfortable way to release the cup though, but once I did, there was no turning back! I’ve been using the cup for about 3 months now, and it has brought me so much freedom! I insert it during my morning shower and because it can be kept in for as long as 12 hours, I only have to take it out again when I take my evening shower! Once I’m done showering, before I get out, I just insert again, and I’m good to go till the next morning, where I repeat the process! No more leakages, no more concerns, no more discomfort and best of all, a whole lot of money saved!!! The reusable cup made of medical silicone will last for many years!! I finally found something that’s better than sliced bread! ????
I’ve been swimming since I was a teenager and it was very awkward to swim with a sanitary towel. Eventually we came to learn about tampons. After having 3 kids I have still been using tampons and it was not as bad as the sanitary towel, until I was introduced to the menstrual cup by Dr Chanell. Obviously I was sceptical at first. Chanell gave me the biggest cup she had and told me it’s because I have 3 grown kids..(I am huge but that doesn’t mean I needed the extra size cup lol). However I tried to use it the evening of my flow, but could not get it to go inside of me. Chanell explained on the phone and whalla- it worked! Ever since then I’ve been using the cup and I have not bought tampons for 8 months and I can sleep through the night without worrying about a mess on my clothes or bedding. I am forever grateful for the invention of this cup. My life is so much easier knowing when “that time of the month” appears, I have peace of mind and more money in my pocket to buy chocolates.
I’ve never heard of the menstrual cup, until Chanell told me about it. I was eager to try it out and see how it works as I’ve been using tampons since high school. My experience wasn’t the best at first (LOL) but definitely an experience I’ll never forget. What doesn’t kill you – makes you stronger! Girl power all the way! I found that the menstrual cup was a lot more comfortable than tampons and also so much more convenient. No changing. No leaking. That’s a girls dream! Despite my first time experience, I’m still using the menstrual cup and I’m loving it! It gets a lot more easier as you go along. Using the ring menstrual cup is SO much better and a lot easier to take out. You don’t even know you’ve got your period sometimes! That’s how amazing it is. I love it!
I don’t regret changing to menstrual cups and I wish every woman would have the courage to just try it.. you’ll never know if you don’t ever try.
At first it was very daunting, I remember calling Chanell to ask if I had inserted it correctly. After the second day it was a complete breeze! Love the 12 hour convenience. I’ve been using the cup for the past 8 months and absolutely loving it!
The F-Word! At first, I wasn’t a big fan because, to be real, I have a heavy flow so I needed the “large” size and it was just a difficulty getting it up there I: . But then, after some practice, I used it again and my-oh-my! It’s magical! For someone with a heavy flow, I loved that I didn’t need to go “change” like every hour. I slept with it in for about 8 hours and I could teach my kids in peace knowing that I won’t leak! I could go about my day in Freedom! PS. a little piece of advice: insert it while in the shower when you’re just about to get out! The F-Word is Fabulous!
Menstrual Cup. As scary as it sounds, a menstrual cup is just a tampon with more perks: you can keep the cup in for longer, you don’t spend money every month on buying tampons and is safer to use. I had the same initial experience I had when I tried tampons for the first time – it took a while to get the cup in, and also out! There’s also that slight uncomfortable feeling you have until your body gets used to it. But after using it more than once it is really life changing. I would definitely recommend it.
Take some time out to check out this amazing tool brought to you by my fave @drchanell. I’ve been using The F-word menstrual cup for six months now and I can’t imagine going back to tampons and pads. It’s better for my insides as well as the environment.
OMG: this menstrual cup is fantastic ·· Why are we donating sanitary pads if we can donate this? Apparently it lasts for 5 years.
Good for the environment. It’s cleaner & I can see how much I’m menstruating. Thank you ladies for introducing it to me. I need to share with the ladies in the office.
I left Paarl on route to Cape Town to end off woman’s month 2021 with a friend I made via a mutual friend. I left with so much excitement that morning to be surrounded by powerful and inspiring woman and just sit around and enjoy the successes we have achieved as woman of colour in South Africa. Needless to say the hightea left me high on life and motivated for the remaining bit of 2021 as never before.
Just as we are about to leave, Dr Chanell slips me one of her Freedom cups to try and says “your life will never be the same again.”
Ladies, let me tell you, not just has my life changed but my periods and it’s struggles has become more manageable since my very first time using it I have seen improvement in my flow.
I am an international qualified health and skin care physician. This means I understand the body and its functions a little more than the average man or woman.
I have always had a very heavy flow, been very active (Tom boy) and since I can remember have been a tampon user as this allowed me to move around freely and not be concerned about dreaded stain. I would suffer from heavy cramps and flow for 10 to 15 days.
Fast forward to my first Freedom cup flow experience. Yes, it looks scary at first but trust me it’s not painful when inserting. Just make sure you have the correct size based on your personal needs.
My period has not come back for a second time in a month after using it just once and I can only imagine it’s because it is absolutely better chemical-wise for our bodies.
This was made for women by women. What more do we want? Uncomfortable hygiene items created by males who has no idea what we go through or The F-word menstrual Cup?
Lastly, because tampons and pads captured the excreted blood and it mixes with air the blood decomposes faster hence leaving that dreaded smell we know all too well.
Ladies with this product that problem is a thing of the past. The menstrual cup catches the menstrual flow and keeps it sealed with no air being able to contaminate the blood allowing for an odor free menstrual cycle.
Let’s not mention the money I have saved in pads and tampons, this is a once off buy. It has changed my life for the better. The only other female product I own now is the panty liner for before and after my cycle.
Why are you still readying this….. Hop online and order your life changing product today Queen, thank me later.
With a busy day-to-day schedule, The F-Word menstrual cup has definitely given me the freedom and assurance to carry out my everyday tasks with confidence! I find comfort in knowing that my period is now one less thing that I need worry about.
I think it’s always the right time to make better choices about ones health.
